2016 USTFCCCA All-Americans For NCAA DIII Cross Country

NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Monday the 70 student-athletes who earned All-America honors by finishing among the top-35 in the men’s and women’s races at the 2016 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships this past weekend in Louisville, Kentucky.

Of all the teams that competed at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park, only one brought home five All-America awards. That would be none other than the runaway men’s team champion North Central (Ill.).

The Cardinals were a juggernaut all year long and showed why this past weekend. North Central (Ill.) put its entire scoring lineup (five runners) in the top-25. Zach Plank led the way in 9th place, while Al Baldonado finished six places behind in 15th. Dhruvil Patel (18th), Ethan Adlfinger (19th) and Zach Hird (24th) all finished not too far behind them. When all was said and done, the Cardinals beat runner-up SUNY Geneseo by 144 points.

No team had four All-Americans, but two had three — the national champion women of Johns Hopkins and the UW-Eau Claire men.

The Blue Jays entered the meet as the unanimous pre-meet favorite and made quick work of the proceedings. Johns Hopkins led from the gun and extended its lead considerably before the finish. The Blue Jays only put one runner in the top-25 and that was senior Tess Meehan (25th). Felicia Koerner (29th) and Natalia LaSpada (31st) also ran well for Johns Hopkins.

The Blugolds finished 3rd in the team standings, a far cry from their national championship last year. UW-Eau Claire lost a lot in the offseason but were paced by key returner Darin Lau, who finished 6th this past weekend. Nick Petersson (31st) and Patrick Treacy (34th) made sure the Blugolds wouldn’t fall too far in the standings.

Five men’s teams and three women’s teams earned two All-America honors apiece. The men’s teams were Washington (Mo.), Tufts, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, MIT and Allegheny (Pa.). The women’s teams were Colorado College, Stevens and Washington (Mo.).
