All-Academic Teams & Scholar Teams of the Year in NCAA DII Track & Field

NEW ORLEANS – Scholar Teams of the Year and All-Academic Team honors for the 2016-17 NCAA Division II Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field seasons were announced Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.

Tiffin was named the Men’s Indoor Scholar Team of the Year after winning the indoor team title and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.11. This is the second year in a row that the Dragons were bestowed this honor.

Adams State was named the Women’s Indoor Scholar Team of the Year after winning the indoor team title over Grand Valley State and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.213. This is the first time since 2014 that the Grizzlies were named Indoor Scholar Team of the Year.

Lincoln (Mo.) was named the Men’s Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year after a runner-up finish at the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Blue Tigers maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.06 during the 2017 campaign. This marks the first time in program history that Lincoln (Mo.) has been named a Scholar Team of the Year.

Grand Valley State was named the Women’s Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year after finishing a game runner-up to West Texas A&M. The Lakers held down a cumulative GPA of 3.258. GVSU was also named Outdoor Scholar Team of the Year in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

All-Academic Teams

There were 191 teams honored by the USTFCCCA for their academics (115 women’s, 76 men’s).

The women of California Baptist University maintained the highest cumulative GPA of any team in NCAA Division II. The Lancers were in a class of their own with a 3.86 GPA.

Cedarville University’s women finished a distant second to Cal Baptist with a GPA of 3.631, while the women of Drury University held down a GPA of 3.63.

The top cumulative GPA of any men’s team belonged to Drury University with its 3.459. Bentley University finished a distant second at 3.44.
