2018 NJCAA Division III Outdoor T&F Champions Are Crowned
UTICA, N.Y. – The 2018 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships came to a conclusion on Saturday evening on the campus of Mohawk Valley CC with two prominent programs who have won titles in the last few seasons.
The men’s program from Rowan-Gloucester (N.J.) CC returned to the top by winning its first title since the 2014 season, while the women’s team from Kingsborough (N.Y.) CC made it two-in-a-row. Both teams headed into the championship meet sitting in first place in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Team Rankings.
Rowan-Gloucester (N.J.) CC totaled 134.5 points to defeat runner-up Suffolk CC by a mere 12.5 points. Despite winning the title, the Roadrunners only had two individual champions, as Adam Hunt took home the titles in the in the hammer throw and discus while Jake Caruso won the steeplechase.
The Kingsborough (N.Y.) CC men finished third with 75 points, followed by Triton College (65) in fourth. Harper College and Sandhills CC tied for fifth with 64 points apiece.
The Kingsborough (N.Y.) CC women had an easier go of it than the men’s champs, as it won by 38 points. Shantal Rouse dominated the sprints for the Wave, winning the 100, 200 and 400 races in addition to taking home first place in the long jump. while Nyeria Gordon did the same in the hurdles events, winning both the 100 and 400. The Wave relay teams also took home titles in the 4×100, 4×400 and 4×800.
Rowan-Gloucester (N.J.) CC finished second with 117, while Harper College placed third with 112. Bergen CC notched 52 points for a fourth-place finish, while Union CC and Middlesex CC tied for fifth with 50 points each.
