CONVENTION UPDATE: Track & Field Academy Courses Offered At USTFCCCA Convention

NEW ORLEANS – Newcomers and veterans to coaching track & field alike can take advantage of the various Track & Field Academy courses being offered at the 2018 USTFCCCA Convention in San Antonio.

A grand total of 12 classes will be taught across four days at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa by some of the world’s best coaches and clinicians.

Please note that enrollment in the Track & Field Academy courses at the USTFCCCA Convention is a separate process and a separate cost from registering for Convention.

Eight of the 12 classes will take place between Saturday, December 15 and Monday, December 17, which is prior to and/or on the official December 17 start date of the USTFCCCA Convention.

The remaining four classes will be held between Friday, December 21 and Saturday, December 22, which is after the conclusion of the USTFCCCA Convention.

TFA Course 201: Track & Field Technical Certification

Dec. 15 (2:00 pm-10:00 pm)
Dec. 16 (8:00 am – 5:00 pm)

Course Fee: $135 until November 30th ($155 after)

Instructor: Tommy Badon

Course Information

A certification granting course covering training design and technical instruction in a variety of Track & Field event areas. Topics include training components, training design, technical instruction and teaching progressions in the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500/1600, 3K/3200, 5K, 10K, 100/110h, 300/400h, Glide SP, DT, JT, LJ, TJ, HJ, PV, 4×100, 4×200, 4×400.

TFA Course 202: Track & Field Management Certification

Dec. 17 (8:00 am – 2:00 pm)

Course Fee: $100 until November 30th ($120 after)

Instructors: Brian Bancroft and Jack Sands

Course Information

A certification granting course covering all non-technical aspects of Track & Field coaching. Topics include ethics, roster management, budget, finance, equipment, academic monitoring, entries, eligibility, meet management.

TFA Course 310: Strength & Conditioning Coach Certificiation

Dec. 21 (8:00 am – 10:00 pm)
Dec. 22 (8:00 am – 5:00 pm)

Course Fee: $260 until November 30th ($280 after)

Course Information

A detailed course covering all aspects of strength training, and other key athletic qualities. Successful completion of the course and its evaluations grants the Track & Field Academy’s Strength & Conditioning Certification. This course is open to anyone, and credit received for successfully completing the course is applicable to the Master’s Endorsement Program.

TFA Course 403: Test & Measurements In Track & Field Coaching

Dec. 16 (3:00 pm-7:00 pm)

Course Fee: $100 until November 30th ($120 after)

Instructor: Kebba Tolbert

Course Information

A course covering all aspects of physical testing for athlete evaluation, program evaluation, and talent identification purposes. Topics include sample tests, testing protocols, results analysis, and testing markers for high performance in all events.

TFA Course 404: Meet Management For The Track & Field Coach

Course Fee: $100 until November 30th ($120 after)

Course Information

A course covering all aspects of meet management including facility use and preparation, timing, equipment, scheduling, intradepartmental relationships, and management of officials.

TFA Course 405: Sports Psychology For The Track & Field Coach

Dec. 16 (3:00 pm-10:00 pm)

Course Fee: $100 until November 30th ($120 after)

Course Information

A course covering key psychological principles and skills applicable to athletic performance.  Topics include anxiety management, psychological skills, major meet preparation.

TFA Course 406: Injury Management For The Track & Field Coach

Dec. 16 (3:00 pm-10:00 pm)

Course Fee: $100 until November 30th ($120 after)

Instructor: Dr. Jack Ransone

Course Information

A course covering various aspects of athletic injury applicable to the coach. Topics include the anatomy of common injuries, study of various sports medicine fields, applicable rehabilitation procedures, and altering training in the event of injury.

TFA Course 407: Weight Training For Track & Field

Dec. 17 (8:00 am-2:00 pm)

Course Fee: $100 until November 30th ($120 after)

Instructor: Boo Schexnayder

Course Information

A course covering the design and administration of weight lifting programs for all track and field events. Topics include adaptations to weight training, categories of lifts and sample exercises, teaching and techniques progressions for key exercises, and periodization of weight training for all track and field events.

TFA Course 408: Sports Science For Speed & Power Events

Dec. 15 (2:00 pm-10:00 pm)
Dec. 16 (8:00 am-2:00 pm)

Course Fee: $150 until November 30th ($170 after)

Course Information

A high level course covering various fields of science applicable to the sprint, hurdle, jumping, throwing, and combined events. Topics include neuromuscular physiology and the basis for speed and power training, the stretch shortening cycle, energy system and endocrine system physiology, musculoskeletal function, motor learning theory.

TFA Course 409: Sports Science For Endurance Events

Course Information

A high level course covering various fields of science applicable to the endurance events. Topics include neuromuscular physiology, musculoskeletal function, energy system function,  cardiorespiratory physiology, gender specific physiology.

TFA Course 501: Master’s Certification In The Short Sprints

Dec. 22 (8:00 am – 12:00 pm)

Course Fee: $200 until November 30th ($220 after)

Course Information

A high level certification granting course that covers the coaching and preparation of short sprint athletes at all levels. Topics include athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the 55m, 60m, 100m, and 200m.

TFA Course 504: Master’s Certification In The Horizontal Jumps

Course Information

A high level certification granting course that covers the coaching and preparation of horizontal jumpers at all levels. Topics include athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the Long and Triple Jumps.
