NAIA Cross Country National Athletes of the Week (September 5)
NAIA Cross Country National Athletes of the Week are selected by the NAIA communications office.
KANSAS CITY, MO. – Jonny Handel of Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) and Ashley Plumb of St. Ambrose University (Iowa) have been named the NAIA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Runners of the Week, respectively, announced by the national office on Wednesday.
Both were selected for their standout performances out of a pool of nominated athletes based on the opening week of competition (August 27-September 3).
NAIA Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Jonny Handel, Lewis-Clark State (Idaho)
Senior | Moscow, Idaho
- Handel finished 15th out of 89 runners and was the top small college finisher
- Ran one of the fastest 6000m in school history at 18:17
NAIA Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Ashley Plumb, St. Ambrose (Iowa)
Senior | Macomb, Illinois
- Broke her school record 5k time by 11 seconds
- Top Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) finisher in the Fighting Saints Twilight Invite out of 12 teams
