The 2018 USTFCCCA Convention is set to take place from Monday, December 17 through Thursday, December 20 at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa deep in the heart of Texas.

Here are six coaches who will be featured during High School Sessions at the 2018 USTFCCCA Convention.

Alex Armenteros, St. Thomas Aquinas High School

Alex Armenteros was named the 2018 National High School Girls Track & Field Coach of the Year after leading St. Thomas Aquinas High School to the FHSAA 4A state championship. The Raiders scored 116 points at the state meet and won by 80, which were both the most points scored and largest margin of victory by a 4A champion since 2000. Armenteros has won 10 state titles in his career – six with the boys program and four more with the girls.

Tommy Badon, University of Louisiana Lafayette

Tommy Badon has had success at both the high school and collegiate level in his long career. From 1989 to 1997, Badon oversaw 27 All-America performances at Louisiana and turned Hollis Conway into a two-time collegiate record holder (Conway still holds the indoor and outdoor high jump records). As a high school coach, Badon has won multiple state championships in football and track & field and mentored numerous individual state champions.

Devlyn Lovell, Antonian College Preparatory High School

Devlyn Lovell has led Antonian College Preparatory High School to considerable success in his 20 years at the institution. The Apaches have won 15 TAPPS state cross country championships in addition to capturing more than 30 individual state titles, more than 65 All-State honors and two High School All-America honors. Lovell also has coaching experience at the collegiate level with stints at UMass-Dartmouth and the University of the Southwest.

Tom Loy, East Canton High School

Tom Loy was named the 2018 National High School Boys Track & Field Coach of the Year after leading East Canton High School to the OHSAA D3 state championship. The Hornets scored 64 points at the state meet, a total that had only been eclipsed three times in the previous 10 years. Loy has won three state championships, multiple district and regional titles as well as coached athletes to numerous individual and relay state titles.

April Smith, Fresno State

Success has followed April Smith every step of the way during her coaching career. Between stops at Appalachian State and Fresno State, Smith has coached 15 qualifiers to the NCAA Championships and her athletes captured multiple individual conference titles. Smith is the lead instructor for Central California USATF and is USATF Level 3-Throws certified and Level 5 IAAF Throws certified.

Brian Zaring, Keller High School

Brian Zaring was named the 2017 National High School Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year after leading Keller High School to a UIL Class 6A state title, second place at the Nike Cross South Regional Championships and a fourth-place effort at Nike Cross Nationals. The Indians won the Class 6A state title by 59 points, which is no small feat in the talent-rich state of Texas. That was Keller High School’s second state title in a row.
