MEET RECAP: Harper (Ill.) Sweeps NJCAA DIII Cross Country Championships
Harper (Ill.) swept the team titles at the 2018 NJCAA Division III Cross Country Championships this past weekend, while Daniel Taylor of Sandhills (N.C.) and Tyesha James of Kingsborough (N.Y.) captured individual glory.
We’ll start with the men’s race, where it became just a matter of how many points the Hawks would win by after Taylor ran away from the field (Taylor eventually won by 46 seconds).
Harper (Ill.) chose to run as a pack and it paid off. The Hawks put four runners in the top-10 (5-6-7-8) as Michael Sisko led the way in fifth place. Jack Casey crossed the finish line in 12th place as Harper (Ill.)’s fifth runner to give the squad 38 points.
Sandhills (N.C.) took runner-up honors behind the Hawks, thanks to Taylor’s individual win. Coming in third place in the team standings was Suffolk County (N.Y.), followed by Ocean County (N.J.) and Kellogg (Mich.) CC.
Harper (Ill.) made it look easy in the women’s race, as well.
The Hawks were led by Misbah Baig, who finished runner-up to James. Behind Baig, Rachael Temple and Taylor Kreiss finished fourth and fifth, while Jessi Gessner and Roxanne Temple rounded out the scoring lineup for 38 total points.
Oxford College (Ga.) finished second in the team standings with 89 points, while Suffolk County (N.Y.), FIT and Hudson Valley (N.Y.) rounded out the top-5.
