Welcome Back, Cross Country!

It’s finally here!

Today is the first day that meets can be held in NCAA Division I and NCAA Division III, while next Thursday (September 5) is the first day that teams can get going in NCAA Division II. Athletes in NJCAA Division I and NJCAA Division III have been going since August 22 and those in the NAIA will be taking to the grass circuit in the coming weeks.

All of those teams will have their eyes on the prize at the end of the season: Their respective divisional championship meets, which will be held in six different states across the United States in November from Massachusetts to California.

Here is a historical note about each of those divisional championships!

  • NCAA Division I
    • This is the 13th time that the meet will be held at the LaVern Championship Cross Country Course. The first time the meet was held there was back in 2002. The last time the meet was held there was 2016.
  • NCAA Division II
    • This is the ninth time that the meet will be held in the state of California. The last time it was held in California was back in 2005 when Cal Poly Pomona played the role of host.
  • NCAA Division III
    • This is just the second time that the meet will be held in the state of Kentucky. The first time was three years ago when the meet was held at the same location – E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park.
  • NJCAA Division I
    • This is the first time that the meet will be held in the state of New Mexico.
  • NJCAA Division III
    • This is the third year in a row that the meet has been held in Westfield, Massachussetts.
  • NAIA
    • This will be the sixth time in the past 10 years that the meet has been held in the state of Washington. Fort Vancouver was the location of the meet from 2009 to 2012 and then again in 2017.
