The top-ranked Tigers own a commanding lead over the rest of the nation in Week 6 and actually extended it this past weekend with their efforts at the LSU Invitational. No mark proved larger to LSU’s benefit than JuVaughn Harrison taking over the national lead in the high jump at 2.30m (7-6½). Tyler Terry cracked the seasonal top-10 in the 400 at No. 10 with his 45.18.
BYU held steady at No. 2 and is being led by its 1500-meter squadron. The Cougars recently sent a bunch of athletes to the West Coast Relays in Clovis, California, and saw them add two national top-10 marks in that event – Talem Franco is No. 6 at 3:37.55; 2020 NCAA DI Cross Country champion Conner Mantz is No. 10 at 3:37.96. That now gives BYU four top-10 marks in the 1500.
Southern California improved one spot to No. 4. The Trojans dot the top-10 of the Descending Order List after their efforts at the UCLA vs USC Dual Meet: Isaiah Jewett is No. 1 in the 800 at 1:45.80; Matthew Katnik and McKay Johnson are now ranked No. 2 and No. 5 in the shot put, respectively, with seasonal bests of more than 20.00m (65-7½).
Florida State jumped five spots from No. 10 to No. 5. The Seminoles saw the continued rise of Jo’Vaughn Martin, who is now ranked fifth in the 200 at 20.22 to go along with his national lead in the 100. Florida State also watched Isaac Grimes and Fabian Edoki move up to No. 5 and No. 8 on the Descending Order List in the long jump, respectively.
Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 6: No. 6 Texas, No. 7 Iowa State, No. 8 Florida, No. 9 Alabama and No. 10 Texas A&M.
The 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held June 9-12 at the redesigned Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
