UW-Oshkosh maintained its hold on the No. 1 ranking for the second week in a row. The Titans own 10 national top-10 efforts on the Descending Order List, including a national-leading mark of 15.00m (49-2½) in the triple jump by Jonathan Wilburn. Elsewhere, UW-Oshkosh has three top-5 marks in the 60 (Jaylen Grant at No. 1, Londyn Little and Davian Williams tied at No. 3) and two more in the 800 (Steven Potter at No. 2, Ryan Potter at No. 4). Little is also ranked No. 2 in the 200 with Aaron Richardson holding down the No. 8 spot on the list.
Two is the theme for Loras, as it’s ranked second in Week 2. The Duhawks have notched 11 countable marks on the Descending Order List, including 11 among the top-10 nationally. Mike Jasa has been a linchpin for Loras this season, as he has his hand in three marks that are each among the best nationally: Jasa is the national leader in the 800, anchored the top-ranked 4×400 relay team and clocked the second-fastest open 400. Not to be outdone, heptathlete Ryan Rogers is ranked top-10 in three different events (60 hurdles, pole vault and heptathlon).
Williams, led by two-event national leader Aidan Ryan, is ranked third in Week 2. Ryan is at the front of both the mile (3:56.88b) and 3000 (7:55.29). That mile time might stand out, as it is also the NCAA DIII record. Grahm Tuohy Gaydos is another Eph that is among the nation’s best in two events (Tuohy Gados is No. 5 in both the 3000 and 5000).
UW-Eau Claire holds down the No. 4 ranking this week. A dizzying display in the heptathlon paced the Blugolds this past weekend, as they continue to show why they’re Multi U in NCAA Division III. Marcus Weaver broke the NCAA DIII record in the heptathlon with 5533 points, while Abrahm Schroedl (5004) and Mitch Stegman (4872) also posted strong marks. Yakob Ekoue (shot put) and Jake Petri (800) have also tallied top-10 marks for UW-Eau Claire.
Wartburg doesn’t look like it will budge from its traditional top-5 spot soon. The Knights, who are ranked No. 5 in Week 2, own six national top-10 marks with a chart-topping effort from Dallas Wright in the 200 of 21.75f. Wright as well as Dayton Love have shown their prowess in the 60H with the third- and fifth-fastest marks on the Descending Order List at 8.07 and 8.11.
Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 2: No. 6 MIT, No. 7 SUNY Geneseo, No. 8 Mount Union, No. 9 Johns Hopkins and No. 10 Carthage. This is the best ranking for the Firebirds in the past eight years (No. 8 in 2014), who rose 19 spots between Week 1 and Week 2.
Mark your calendars for March 11-12, because that’s when the 2021 NCAA DIII Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
