

2022 NCAA DII Men’s Indoor Track & Field Rating Index – Week 6
NEW ORLEANS – Conference Championships Weekend was nothing short of incredible!
Here is the newest edition of the NCAA Division II Men’s Indoor Track & Field National TFRI for the 2022 season, as released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday. No marks from previous seasons have been used, which means this objective list is compiled solely of current marks from the 2022 indoor track & field season.

Pittsburg State continued to sit atop the National Rating Index for the third-straight week. The Gorillas have hauled in 11 national top-10 marks through conference weekend. Five of those new or improved performance came from the MIAA Championships, including three national leading efforts: Henry Kiner in the triple jump (16.02m/52-6¾); Trey Mooney in the heptathlon (5614); the 4×400 relay clocking 3:09.19. Braylen Brewer, the anchor for the top-ranked 4×400, moved to No. 2 in the 400 (46.33), while Hunter Jones posted the sixth-best score of the season in the heptathlon (5412).
Grand Valley State also held its No. 2 billing for another week. The Lakers have tallied 14 national top-10 performances, with six of them being new or improved marks from this past weekend’s GLIAC Championships. Jonathan Rankins-James cleared 2.16m (7-1) in the high jump to move to No. 4 on the Descending Order List. Other top-10 efforts come from Brandon Miller in the 200 (No. 2, 21.20), Dennis Mbuta in the 800 (No. 9, 1:50.05), Tanner Chada in the 3000 (No. 8. 7:57.45), Matt Thomas in the shot put (No. 6, 18.29m/60-¼) and the DMR with the sixth-best time (9:40.86).
West Texas A&M continued to ascend the National Rating Index, this time climbing two spots to No. 3. Benjamin Azamati starred for the Buffs with a pair of gold medals in the 60 and 200. His winning time in the 200 of 20.64c (20.57A) makes him the No. 2 performer all-time in NCAA DII history. The Buffs also had Hamdi Alamin turn in the third-best high jump of the season with his 2.17m (7-1½) clearance. Jeremiah Lauzon had a hand in two new or improved top-10 marks for the Buffs with his No. 8 clocking in the 200 (21.21c/21.14A) and toting the baton on the ninth-ranked 4×400 relay (3:13.19c/3:12.75A).
Colorado School of Mines fell one spot to No. 4 to no fault of its own. The Orediggers have nine national top-10 marks, with seven of them residing among the distance events. Loic Scomparin turned in a season best 7:55.22 in the 3000 at Boston to move to No. 6 on the Descending Order List.
Adams State jumped five spots to No. 5 in Week 6. The Grizzlies picked up six new or improved top-10 efforts this past weekend to bring their season total to 10. Adams State’s DMR took over the national lead with their 9:35.94c (10:02.08A) at the RMAC Championships. Other Grizzly athletes to shine are Leroy Elliott in the 60H (7.89c/7.85A), David Cardenas in the 800 (No. 10, 1:50.07c/1:53.25A), James Dunne (No. 4, 7:54.73) and Davonte Jett-Reynolds (No. 9, 7:57.64c/8:28.62A) in the 3000, and Awet Beraki in the 5000 (No. 3, 13:36.22).
Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 6: No. 6 Central Missouri, No. 7 Ashland, No. 8 American International, No. 9 Texas A&M-Commerce and No. 10 Lee (Tenn.). Ashland’s Trevor Bassitt won the 400 in 45.75 at the USATF Indoor Championships He is the first collegian to win the event since Michael Johnson did so in 1990 and will get to represent Team USA at the World Athletics Indoor Championships on March 18-20 in Belgrade, Serbia. Christian Noble of Lee (Tenn.) also had an outstanding weekend himself, breaking the NCAA DII records in the mile (3:56.10) and 3000 (7:50.98) in a span of 90 minutes at Boston.
