George Fox headlines the National TFRI in a big way with 12 national top-10 marks to its credit. The Bruins find their marks spread across eight different events with multiple top-10 efforts in the pole vault, javelin throw and heptathlon. Two of George Fox’s athletes top the Descending Order List: Bethany Schmidt in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:01.86 (Schmidt is also No. 3 in the 400 at 57.63); Chrissy Strickland in the javelin at 43.65m (143-3).
Middlebury is ranked second to begin the season with its 11 national top-10 performances. While the Panthers don’t have a national leader among their ranks, they have two efforts that rank second nationally in the guise of Cassidy Kearney in the 1500 meters (4:32.89) as well as the 4×400 relay at 3:56.17, of which Kearney ran the first leg.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps holds down the third spot in Week 1. The Athenas have eight national top-10 marks, including a pair of national leaders: Riley Harmon in the steeplechase at 11:08.15; Brooke Simon in the pole vault at 3.80m (12-5½). Outside of those two efforts, CMS has five others – making seven out of its eight – ranked among the top-5 nationally.
Washington (Mo.) starts the 2022 outdoor season at No. 4. Eight performances by the Bears so far this season rank among the national top-10, including Zi’Onay Walker’s division-leading triple jump of 11.92m (39-1¼). Three other efforts by WashU athletes sit in the national top-5, highlighted by the 3:57.09 four-lapper by the program’s 4×400 relay team.
Colby, with its six national top-10 performances, ranks fifth. Sade Greenidge has the top mark out of any Mule with her division-leading 200m of 25.01. Greenidge is also among the top-5 performers in the 100m at 12.02. Sharde Johnson has two top-5 marks of her own coming in the high jump (No. 2, 1.69m/5-6½) and triple jump (No. 3, 11.24m/36-10½).
Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 1: No. 6 Redlands (Calif.), No. 7 St. Norbert, No. 8 Johns Hopkins, No. 9 Wartburg and No. 10 Whittier.
