All was quiet among the top-3 teams this week, as Texas, Alabama and Florida remained No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Both the Longhorns and the Crimson Tide added or improved one national top-10 marks to their ledgers – Jonathan Jones in the 400 for Texas (No. 2, 44.79) and Tatsis Orogot in the 200 for Alabama (No. 4, 20.15w) – while the Gators notched two with Joseph Fahnbulleh tying for the national lead in the 200 at 19.92 and Champion Allison matching teammate Ryan Willie for the No. 5 spot over 400 meters at 45.16.
LSU jumped six spots between Week 5 and Week 6 following a sensational performance at its own LSU Invitational. The Tigers truly took home-track advantage to heart as they added or improved five national top-10 marks to their resume: Dorian Camel is now third in the 200 at 20.00; Da’Marcus Fleming is now No. 5 in the 100 at 10.02w; Apalos Edwards is now sixth in the triple jump at 16.27m (53-4½); both 4×100 and 4×400 relays sprinted into the top-10.
Texas A&M dropped one spot to No. 5 to no fault of its own. The Aggies added or improved two national top-10 marks thanks to Moitalel Mpoke posting a national-leading effort in the 400-meter hurdles of 48.99 and Brandon Miller working his way to No. 4 in the 800 meters.
Here are the rest of the top-10 teams in Week 6: No. 6 Georgia (unchanged), No. 7 Oregon (down two spots), No. 8 Texas Tech (down one spot), No. 9 Southern California (up five spots) and No. 10 Stanford (up 13 spots). Both the Trojans and the Cardinal added multiple national top-10 marks to their seasons, headlined by three in the 10,000 meters alone from the latter: Charles Hicks (No. 2, 27:40.16), Cole Sprout (No. 3, 27:42.42) and Ky Robinson (No. 5, 27:47.11).
Mark your calendars for June 8-11, because that’s when the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon!
