Caryl Smith Gilbert, Southern California: 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Coach Athlete of the Year

Smith Gilbert, in her eighth year at Southern California, was named the National Women’s Coach of the Year. She guided the Women of Troy to a dominant showing at the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, where they won their second national title in the past three meets with 74 points, the second most since 2003. USC scored 68 of its 74 points in sprints, hurdle and relay events, thanks to a trio of event crowns – Anna Cockrell became just the second woman in meet history to sweep the 100H-400H and the 4×100 relay took gold. The Pac-12 champion Women of Troy were in the top-5 of the National TFRI all season long and hit 17 all-time top-10 program marks during the regular season.
