Shaver, in his 17th year at LSU, was named the co-National Men’s Coach of the Year. He guided the Tigers to a dominant effort at the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, where they scored 84 points and became just the third team in meet history to win six or more event titles (Ohio State had seven in 1936; Southern California also had six in 1953). LSU placed first in the 100, 400H, 4×100 relay, high jump, long jump and javelin. Shaver’s star athletes, JuVaughn Harrison and Terrance Laird, left their names all over the all-time collegiate chart in their respective events (Harrison in the high jump and long jump; Laird in the 200). During the regular season, the Tigers were ranked No. 1 in all but one week of the National TFRI.
