MEET OPENING: Cypress Ridge (Texas) High School [Collegiate Relays Exhibition]
November 4, 2011
Attached is an invite for College/University coaches to our High School Invite. We are trying to see if we can get a few schools who will not be competing indoors, or have runners that need a tune up race before conference indoors to come run a few exhibition relays. We are not charging an entry fee for the College/University divisions. We are just looking to get some schools on campus to race. This would allow our kids in the Houston area to see some up close competition of athletes at the next level, as well collegiate coaches see some of the best talent in the Houston area up close.
The Cypress Ridge High School Track and Field program is soliciting your participation in the 1stAnnual Ram Tough Invitational Relays for college/university and high school athletes. The meet is scheduled to take place Saturday, February18, 2012. We feel that providing more opportunities for high school track and field athletes to observe competition at the next level will motivate them to work harder to develop their talents in the sport. We are looking for 4-8 college/universities, and approx. 20 High Schools to participate.
We realize that during this time, many of your athletes are working to qualify for Indoor Nationals therefore athletes who will not qualify or who want to run unattached are welcome to participate in our meet. The Schedule will be as follows:
Running events will follow UIL order of events.
9:00 am Boys Pole Vault, Boys Discus, Boys Triple Jump, Girls Long Jump, Girls’ Shot, Girl’s High Jump ( High Schools only)

Overview: This is a great opportunity for coaches and athletes alike to learn from four master coaches. The presenters have been invited to speak on all elements of distance running. Each presentation will be for 1:05 with a question/answer period after. If you are a distance runner or a coach of distance runners and interested in high-level learning, this special distance running summit will help you. The new Joe Rosenfield Center (JRC) on the campus of Grinnell College will again be the site for the Summit.
WHO IS INVITED? WHAT CAN I LEARN?
This country has over 300 million people and a fine developmental system for distance runners (the HS and college model), yet our history of World Championship and Olympic medals over the past 30+ years has been unremarkable at best. What are the reasons for this? Is it sociological, has the rest of the world simply past us by, or are the reasons systemic to our coaching and training methodologies?
Our goal in starting the summit several years ago was to provide a forum for learning and discourse and to challenge the coach and runner alike to really think about how we train distance runners in this country. If you want to succeed, you will learn at this special clinic. Come prepared to learn!
