Lawrence, a sophomore from Petersfield, Jamaica, left no doubt throughout the season that he is one of the best shot putters in NJCAA history. He proved it at the NJCAA Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas, where he notched two all-time top-5 marks – No. 3 (18.83m/61-9½) and No. 5 (18.69m/61-4) – and needed every bit of those to fend off a challenge from runner-up Fred Moudani of Barton County CC, who is now the fourth-best performer in NJCAA history at 18.64m (61-2). Lawrence ended the season with six all-time top-10 marks to his ledger, including the second-best heave of 18.92m (62-1), recorded at the KJCC Invitational on January 31.
