Holloway Wins Thrilling 110H Final
Grant Holloway put the world – and the world record – on notice.
Holloway, who won The Bowerman in 2019 after a sensational year with Florida, rolled to a victorious 12.86 WL that is also the fourth-fastest mark in world history. The former Gator now has two of the top-4 fastest efforts in the history of the event – 12.81 and 12.86 – both ran at the past two Olympic Trials in different years (2021 for the former; 2024 for the latter).
Now, Holloway turns his attention to the Paris Olympics, where he’ll look to win his first gold medal and possibly shatter Aries Merritt’s 12.80 WR. Holloway took silver in Tokyo three years ago, beaten by Jamaica’s Hansle Parchment.
Richardson Makes First Olympic Team
Sha’Carri Richardson left no doubt on Saturday night at Hayward Field.
Richardson raced to victory in the 100-meter final, dropping a world-leading 10.71 in the process. The 2019 winner of The Bowerman beat the rest of the field by 0.09 seconds with training partners Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry taking second and third in 10.80 and 10.89, respectively.
The former LSU star who won her first world title last year in Budapest enters the Paris Olympics and the presumptive favorite. No American woman has won gold at the Olympics since Gail Devers in 1996.
Norman Finishes Runner-Up In 400
Michael Norman probably felt right at home.
Norman, who won The Bowerman in 2018, placed second in the final of the 400 meters on Monday night. The former Southern California standout went through 200 meters in a blistering 20.90 before holding off Chris Bailey for second place with his 44.41 finish (Bailey took third in 44.42).
Orji Bounds Her Way To Paris
Keturah Orji is headed to the City of Light.
Orji, who won The Bowerman in 2018 after a record-breaking year at Georgia, took silver in the final of the triple jump two weeks ago. The former Bulldog bounded 14.22m (46-8) in Round 6 to seal her spot.
Lawson Soars To Third In Long Jump
Jarrion Lawson sat outside of medal contention entering the last round of the long jump on Monday night. Lawson needed a big jump to at least give himself a shot of qualifying for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
The 2016 winner of The Bowerman did just that.
Lawson spanned a 8.18m (26-10) SB to finish 1 cm ahead of Johnny Brackins Jr. of Southern California, who won the NCAA indoor title this past March.
Odds & Ends From Eugene
2017 The Bowerman winner Christian Coleman finished fourth in the final of the 100 meters on Sunday night and will have to rely on being in the relay pool to make Team USA … 2021 The Bowerman winner Athing Mu fell early on in the final of the 800 meters and finished last … Three winners of The Bowerman were in the final of the Women’s 200 Meters on Saturday: Jenna Prandini (2015), Sha’Carri Richardson (2019) and Abby Steiner (2022). All three missed qualifying for Team USA as Richardson was fourth, Steiner was sixth and Prandini took seventh.
