We’ll continue to update this post throughout the 11-day Athletics program.

Make It Two For Juju

Julien Alfred had quite the Olympic debut in Paris.

Alfred, who won The Bowerman in 2023 after a sensational year at Texas, doubled up on medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics with gold in the 100 meters and silver in the 200 meters.

It all started this past Saturday in the 100 when Alfred left the competition in the blocks and stormed to a decisive victory. She broke the tape in 10.72 to win by 0.15 seconds over 2019 The Bowerman winner Sha’Carri Richardson and set a Saint Lucian record in the process. That also gave Saint Lucia its first Olympic medal in any sport.

Then on Tuesday, Alfred returned to the track for the 200-meter final. Alfred once again had a quick reaction time and finished a clear runner-up to gold medal winner Gabby Thomas.

Holloway Finally Gets His Gold

One thing had been missing in Grant Holloway’s trophy case: an Olympic gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles. Holloway topped the podium at both World Championships, but never at the Olympics.

Well, Holloway made sure he wouldn’t leave Paris without it.

Holloway, who won The Bowerman in 2019 after a record-breaking year at Florida, trounced the field in the City of Light on his way to victory. The former Gator stopped the clock at 12.99 (-0.1) to win by 0.10 seconds over former Kentucky standout Daniel Roberts.

It’s Still Mondo’s World (Record)

Mondo Duplantis keeps raising the bar – literally.

Duplantis, who was a finalist for The Bowerman in 2019 after a sensational year at LSU, defended his Olympic title in style on Monday. He improved his world record to 6.25m (20-6) en route to winning his sixth global gold.

Hocker Kicks To Olympic 1500-Meter Gold

Cole Hocker bided his time in the final of the Men’s 1500 Meters on Tuesday.

When the time was right, Hocker struck and sprinted to an Olympic gold medal.

Hocker, a 2021 finalist for The Bowerman, kicked past Jacob Ingebrigtsen and Josh Kerr down the homestretch to win a thrilling race. The former Oregon Duck squeezed past both on the rail and crossed the finish line first in 3:27.65 for a new Olympic record.

McLaughlin-Levrone Leaves No Doubt

We have no words, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.

McLaughlin-Levrone defended her Olympic title in the 400-meter hurdles and lowered her world record in the process to 50.34. The former Kentucky star, who was a finalist for The Bowerman in 2018, won by more than one second over former Southern California standout Anna Cockrell.

All About The Benjamin

Rai Benjamin waited three years for this moment.

Benjamin wasn’t about to let it slip away – not in the slightest.

The former Southern California star, who was a finalist for The Bowerman in 2018, galloped to gold in the 400-meter hurdles on Friday. He equaled his season best of 46.46 in the process and defeated defending Olympic champion and rival Karsten Warholm in the process.

Benjamin, McLaughlin-Levrone Pace 4×400 Relays

Team USA called on the heavy hitters for the 4×400 relays.

Rai Benjamin and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, fresh off winning gold in the respective 400-meter hurdles, delivered as Team USA swept the relays on Saturday. Benjamin anchored Team USA to a 2:54.43 Olympic record, while McLaughlin-Levrone blew open the race on the second leg with a blazing 47.7 split and sent the foursome to an American record 3:15.27.

Hammer Gold For Rogers

Camryn Rogers is in a class of her own in the hammer throw.

Rogers, who was a finalist for The Bowerman in 2022, won the gold medal in Paris on Tuesday. The former California standout launched the implement 76.97m (252-6) and obliterated the competition (No other athlete threw farther than 75.48m).

Richardson’s Golden Anchor Leads Team USA

Was there ever a doubt when Sha’Carri Richardson got the baton?

Well, there shouldn’t have been in the final of the 4×100 relay on Friday.

Richardson, who won The Bowerman in 2019, paced Team USA to a come-from-behind victory with a scintillating anchor of 10.09, 0.11 seconds faster than anybody else on that leg. Team USA was fourth at 300 meters before Richardson turned on the afterburners.

Olympic History For Moore

Only two women in Olympic history medaled in both the long jump and triple jump at the same Olympic games: Jasmine Moore is one of them (Russia’s Tatyana Lebedeva was the other in 2004).

Moore, who was a finalist for The Bowerman in 2023 after an incredible year at Florida, won bronze in each event: she bounded 14.67m (48-1¾) in the triple jump on Saturday for that medal; then she followed that up with a 6.88m (22-7) mark in the long jump on Thursday.
