The USTFCCCA’s Track & Field Academy is an educational and certification program designed to provide professional development opportunities for coaches at all levels of the sport. The mission of the Track & Field Academy is to deliver ongoing educational experiences and certification opportunities, covering the technical, managerial and philosophical aspects of the profession.

The TFTC sets a foundation for further educational opportunities within the Track and Field Academy. This 15-hour course contains training design and technical instruction for all the common track and field events. Curriculum is broad-based and robust, covering all key aspects of technical coaching. Each section is illustrated with pertinent, animated video created specifically for this course to enhance clarity and understanding.

In-person TFTC courses have been in place since late 2010 with over 1,600 coaches earning certifications.

“The Track & Field Academy’s online TFTC certification affords coaches the opportunity to expand their horizons at a pace that is convenient for them,” said Mike Corn, USTFCCCA Assistant Director. “With Boo Schexnayder providing expert instruction, participants will learn vital techniques that will make a difference for those they mentor. This course aids in the foundation needed to become a well-rounded, effective track & field coach.”

Schexnayder, the Director of the USTFCCCA Track & Field Academy, is one of the most sought after clinicians in the country.  He has developed much of the curriculum taught in the Academy programs including all of the TFTC material.  Schexnayder has coached a two-time world champion in the triple jump (Walter Davis), an Olympic silver medalist in the long jump (John Moffitt), and 19 NCAA champions.

“Boo has been in the trenches. He has worked at every level of the sport, having coached at the high school, collegiate and Olympic levels and is widely considered one of the best educators in the business.” said Corn. “His mastery of the technical aspects of the sport is matched by few around the world, and the Track & Field Academy is certainly fortunate to have him guiding the program.”

Tuition for the Online TFTC course is $195.00. The 18-lesson course is supported by an electronic text and offers students the opportunity to submit questions via an online forum. Following the successful completion of the online exam, students are granted the status of Technical Track & Field Coaching certification and presented with a certificate verifying that status.
