Track & Field Academy Certifications

Track & Field Technical Certification. Certification as a coach who has been trained in designing training and conducting technical instruction in a variety of Track & Field event areas. The certification course is available On Site or Online . Topics include training components, training design, technical instruction and teaching progressions in the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500/1600, 3K/3200, 5K, 10K, 100/110h, 300/400h, Glide SP, DT, JT, LJ, TJ, HJ, PV, 4×100, 4×200, 4×400.

Certification Requirements: Course 201 or 251

Track & Field Program Management Certification. Certification as a coach who has been trained in all non-technical aspects of program management. Topics include philosophy and ethics, roster management, scheduling, academic monitoring, budget and finance, travel, and more.

Certification Requirements: Course 202 or 252

Track & Field Coaching Certification Certification as a coach who has been trained in all key aspects of Track and Field Coaching, including technical and management areas. This certification is granted for gaining the Track & Field Technical Certification and the Program Management Certification.

Sprint, Hurdle & Relay Event Specialist Certification. Certification as a coach who has been extensively trained in technical coaching of the sprint, hurdle and relay events. Topics include training theory, biomechanics of sprinting and hurdling, training components, design and administration, peripheral training concerns, training design, technical issues, and technical teaching in the sprint, hurdle and relay events.

Jumping Event Specialist Certification. Certification as a coach who has been extensively trained in technical coaching of the jumping events. Topics include training theory, biomechanics of the jumping events, training components, design and administration, peripheral training concerns, training design, technical issues, and technical teaching in jumping events.

Throwing Event Specialist Certification. Certification as a coach who has been extensively trained in technical coaching of the throwing events. Topics include training theory, biomechanics of the throwing events, training components, design and administration, peripheral training concerns, technical issues, and technical teaching in the throwing events.

Certification Requirements: Course 304

Endurance Event Specialist Certification. Certification as a coach who has been extensively trained in technical coaching of the endurance events and cross country. Topics include training theory, biomechanics of the endurance events and running efficiency, training components, design and administration, peripheral training concerns, technical issues  and  teaching in the endurance events.

Certification Requirements: Course 305

Combined Event Specialist Certification. Certification as a coach who has been extensively trained in technical coaching of the Combined Events. Topics include training theory, biomechanics of the throwing events, training components, design and administration, peripheral training concerns, technical issues, and technical teaching in the Pentathlon, Men’s Heptathlon, Women’s Heptathlon, and Decathlon.

Head Collegiate Coaching Certification. Certification as a coach who has been extensively trained in all key duties of a collegiate head coach including technical coaching, philosophy and ethics, roster and staff management, academic monitoring, sports psychology, meet management, finance, scheduling and travel management.

Prerequisites:  3 years formal coaching experience at the Collegiate Level, one of Courses 302, 303, 304, 305, or 306, also courses 404, 405, 406, 407 or 310
Certification Requirements: Course 307

Head High School Coaching Certification. Certification as a coach who has been extensively trained in all key duties of a high school head coach including technical coaching, philosophy and ethics, roster and staff management, academic monitoring, sports psychology, meet management, finance, scheduling and travel management.

Prerequisites:  3 years formal coaching experience at the High School Level, one of Courses 201, 251, 302, 303, 304, 305, or 306, also courses 404, 405, 406
Certification Requirements: Course 308

Strength and Conditioning Certification. Certification as a coach who has been extensively trained in all aspects of strength and conditioning including program design, program administration, and technical coaching. Topics include training theory, physiology, energy systems, speed and coordination development, strength training modalities and administration, and weight training technique, training design, administration, and safety.

Track & Field Academy Master Endorsements

Master’s Endorsement in the Short Sprints. Certification as a coach who has been trained to a high level and demonstrated great proficiency in training athletes in the short sprint events.  Such coaches show great command at all levels of athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the 55m, 60m, 100m, and 200m.

Admission: Course 302 and 3 of the following:  401, 403, 405, 406, 407 or 310, 408
Prerequisites for Certification:  Courses 302, 401, 403, 405, 406, 407, 408, in any order
Certification Requirements: Prerequisites, 6 years formal coaching experience, Course 501, and Fulfillment of Mentorship and Publication Requirements

Master’s Endorsement in the Long Sprints. Certification as a coach who has been trained to a high level and demonstrated great proficiency in training athletes in the long sprint events.  Such coaches show great command at all levels of athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the 200m and 400m.

Master’s Endorsement in the Hurdles. Certification as a coach who has been trained to a high level and demonstrated great proficiency in training athletes in the hurdle events.  Such coaches show great command at all levels of athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the 55H, 60H, 100H, 110H, 300H, and 400H.

Master’s Endorsement in the Horizontal Jumps. Certification as a coach who has been trained to a high level and demonstrated great proficiency in training athletes in the long and triple jump events.  Such coaches show great command at all levels of athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the Long and Triple Jumps.

Master’s Endorsement in the High Jump. Certification as a coach who has been trained to a high level and demonstrated great proficiency in training athletes in high jump event.  Such coaches show great command at all levels of athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the High Jump.

Certification as a coach who has been trained to a high level and demonstrated great proficiency in training athletes in the Pole Vault event.  Such coaches show great command at all levels of athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the Pole Vault.

Master’s Endorsement in the Javelin Throw. Certification as a coach who has been trained to a high level and demonstrated great proficiency in training athletes in the Javelin Throw event.  Such coaches show great command at all levels of athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the Javelin Throw.

Master’s Endorsement in the Shot Put and Discus Throw. Certification as a coach who has been trained to a high level and demonstrated great proficiency in training athletes in the Shot Put and Discus Throw events.  Such coaches show great command at all levels of athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the Shot Put and Discus Throw.

Master’s Endorsement in the Middle Distances. Certification as a coach who has been trained to a high level and demonstrated great proficiency in training athletes in the 800m, 1500m, and 1600m events.  Such coaches show great command at all levels of athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the 800m and 1500m.

Master’s Endorsement in the Long Distances. Certification as a coach who has been trained to a high level and demonstrated great proficiency in training athletes in the 3000m, 3000m Steeplechase, 3200m, 5000m, and 10000m.  Such coaches show great command at all levels of athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the Long Distance Events.

Master’s Endorsement in Racewalking. Certification as a coach who has been trained to a high level and demonstrated great proficiency in training athletes in the Racewalking Events.  Such coaches show great command at all levels of athlete management, training design and administration, competition management, technical issues and instruction, and sports sciences related to the Racewalking Events.
