The Bowerman will shine at the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships.

Fourteen winners of collegiate track & field’s highest individual honor are slated to compete at Hayward Field over the course of the weekend. Read that again: 14.

Here’s a closer look at those 14 athletes vying for U.S. titles in Eugene, Oregon.

The Bowerman – 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships

Year Men’s Winner Event(s) Women’s Winner Event(s)

2016 Jarrion Lawson LJ Courtney Okolo 400
2015 Marquis Dendy LJ Jenna Prandini 100/200

That’s seven full classes of winners in a row, starting with Marquis Dendy and Jenna Prandini in 2015 and capped by Trey Cunningham and Abby Steiner in 2022.

And while it has no say on The Bowerman winners in the near future since only marks from the 2023 collegiate track & field seasons are to be considered when voting, three finalists from 2023 are headed to TrackTown USA: Kyle Garland for the men; Jasmine Moore and Britton Wilson for the women. Garland hopes to make Team USA in the decathlon, while Moore and Wilson are prepared to take on all foes in the horizontal jumps and 400 meters, respectively.

Action gets underway on Thursday, July 6 and runs through Sunday, July 9.

So What’s Happening In Eugene?

Richardson Wins 100-Meter Title

Sha’Carri Richardson wouldn’t be denied over 100 meters.

Richardson, who won The Bowerman in 2019 after a sensational freshman year at LSU, scorched the track at Hayward Field on her way to the U.S. title. She opened the proceedings with a wind-legal 10.71 PB in the prelims before dialing it back to 10.75 in the semifinals. Then, in the final, Richardson left no doubt with her 10.82 winner.

More impressively, Richardson won each round by an average of 0.19 seconds, including two 0.25-second victories.

Check The Sky: That’s Dendy

Marquis Dendy soared in the long jump – and brought two members of The Bowerman Family along with him for the ride.

Dendy, who won The Bowerman in 2015 after a remarkable year at Florida, won the U.S. title with a leap of 8.14m (26-8½). That effort came on his first attempt of the competition.

Remember what we said about The Bowerman Family? Well, 2016 The Bowerman winner Jarrion Lawson finished runner-up with a mark of 8.13m (26-8¼) and 2021 The Bowerman winner JuVaughn Harrison took third at a wind-aided 8.08m (26-6¼).
