Daniel Kibungei led the way for Lubbock Christian placing third with a time of 26:16, 23 seconds off of the pace of the champion. Chap teammates Gabirel Rop and Marcos Morillon finished sixth and eighth, respectively.
Sammy Nyamongo, a sophomore from Life University (Ga.), collected the men’s individual honors with a time of 25:53. Nyamongo, who finished in third place in 1996, led the pack most of the eight-kilometer race and finished ten seconds ahead of teammate Silah Misoi who was attempting to defend his individual crown from a year ago.
Danny Wilcoxson, coach of Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.), was the 1997 NAIA Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. Wilcoxson guided the Blue Raiders to a third-place finish this year, improving on a 17th-place finish a year ago.
