Adams State Named 2008 USTFCCCA Men’s Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year
NEW ORLEANS – The Adams State Grizzlies have been named the 2008 NCAA Division II USTFCCCA Men’s Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Wednesday.
“This award is a really great testament to the quality of student-athletes we have in our program,” said Adams State Head Coach Damon Martin. “Coupled with Aaron Braun’s individual award, it is easy to see that these are very remarkable accomplishments for our program that I and our administration are very proud of,” Martin added.
The Grizzlies, who won this year’s NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championship, maintain a 3.050 team cumulative grade point average. The men’s cross country title was the first for the men’s program since 2003. Adams State won the Central Regional title, and its fourth straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) title.
Joining the Grizzlies on the USTFCCCA Team All-Academic list are 57 other men’s Division II programs. The University of Findlay had the highest overall team grade point average; 3.590.
The All-Academic team list comprised of six of the top ten teams at the national meet, and 10 of the top 20 team finishers. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference each had eight conference schools on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team list. The RMAC was close behind with seven conference schools on the All-Academic team list.
Adams State was named the NCAA Division II USTFCCCA Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team of the Year.
