DII Regional Cross Country Rankings: 2012 Week #1

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released week one regional rankings for the NCAA Division II 2012 season. Lock Haven’s men in the Atlantic region and UNC Pembroke’s women in the Southeast region were ranked No. 1 in their regions, differing their initial preseason standing.

New teams to the regional top ten include West Virginia Wesleyan (men’s Atlantic), Fort Hays State (men’s Central), Neb.-Kearney (men’s Central), Wilmington (Del.) (men’s East), Lewis (men’s Midwest), Indianapolis (men’s Midwest), Drury (men’s Midwest), Morehouse (men’s South), Angelo State (men’s South Central), West Texas A&M (men’s South Central), Clayton State (men’s Southeast), Belmont Abbey (men’s Southeast), GCSU (men’s Southeast), Minnesota State (women’s Central), Central Missouri (women’s Central), Saint Rose (women’s East), Cedarville (women’s Midwest), Cedarville (women’s Midwest), Florida Southern (women’s South), West Texas A&M (women’s South Central), Fort Lewis (women’s South Central), GCSU (women’s Southeast), Lenoir-Rhyne (womenn’s Southeast), Cal State LA (women’s West).

The No. 1 men’s teams by region are: Lock Haven (Atlantic), Augustana (S.D.) (Central), UMass Lowell (East), Grand Valley State (Midwest), Alabama-Huntsville (South), Adams State (South Central), Mount Olive (Southeast), Chico State (West). Top women’s teams include Shippensburg (Atlantic), Augustana (S.D.) (Central), Stonehill (East), Grand Valley State (Midwest), Tampa (South), Adams State (South Central), UNC Pembroke (Southeast), and Alaska Anchorage (West).

Regions in DII are determined by conference affiliation. Many from the Central and South Central regions switched regions for the 2012 season. Most notably, the MIAA went from the South Central to Central regions and the RMAC was switched to the South Central region from the Central.

NCAA Division II Regional Championships will be held on Saturday, November 3 and Sunday, November 4. NCAA DII Regional Championships Central.

USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
