USTFCCCA Convention Update: Assistant Coach Development Sessions
NEW ORLEANS – In addition to discipline-specific Symposiums presentations, the 2013 USTFCCCA Convention taking place December 16-19 at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes in Orlando, Fla., will also feature broad-based assistant coach development presentations and roundtables.
Three separate presentations by some of the nation’s premier coaches and two additional roundtable sessions with five contributors each will cover a host of topics pertinent to members of any coaching staff — all of which are accessible to registered convention attendees.
Pat Henry of Texas A&M and Mike Holloway of Florida coached their respective teams to co-NCAA Division I Outdoor men’s team titles, and will make back-to-back presentations on the afternoon on Tuesday, December 17.
Henry, who has coached his teams to 36 total national titles since beginning his head coaching career in 1987, will share the lessons he’s learned during his lengthy and successful tenure in a presentation entitled, "Advice for Young Coaches."
Holloway, a five-time national-championship coach in his 12 seasons in charge of the Florida program, will continue the discussion at 4:15 p.m. He will advise young coaches as to how to progress in the coaching profession.
The final individual assistant coach development presentation will take place Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. with Air Force’s Ralph Lindeman. After nearly a quarter century in charge of the Academy’s track & field team, he has coached countless student-athletes and during his talk he will provide insight into coaching today’s generation of student-athletes.
Aspiring coaches will also have access to two roundtable sessions that will cover a variety of topics. The first will take place Tuesday afternoon at 1:30, featuring Missouri athletic trainer Jen Artoili, USTFCCCA Director of Communications Tom Lewis, Rock Recovery founder Carylynn Kemp Larson, former Wisconsin men’s head coach Ed Nuttycombe and Marrill Lynch’s John McKenzie.
The second roundtable will take place at 2:45 Wednesday afternoon. The diverse panel of speakers will include Jason Kronstat of TFRRS/DirectAthletics, Kyle Pierce of the USA Weightlifting Center for High Performance and Development at LSU-Shreveport, Springfield College women’s head coach Jim Pennington, recently-retired Northern Arizona and Illinois head coach Ron Mann and McKenzie of Merrill Lynch.
Registration for the 2013 USTFCCCA Convention is now open. Early registration rates are available through November 30.
