

Johns Hopkins Women & St. Olaf Men Named Division III Scholar Teams of the Year
NEW ORLEANS – The NCAA Division III Cross Country Champion women of Johns Hopkins and men of St. Olaf have been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Scholar Teams of the year for the 2013 cross country season among 215 women’s programs and 146 men’s programs that earned All-Academic Team honors.
Johns Hopkins and St. Olaf earned the honor as the highest-finishing teams at NCAAs to have earned All-Academic Team honors by compiling a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.1. This is the second consecutive year the Johns Hopkins women have won the award.

In winning their second consecutive women’s cross country title, the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins collectively earned a 3.35 cumulative GPA behind three individual All-Academic selections.
Johns Hopkins claimed the title with a winning score of 85 points to runner-up Williams’ 137, with four of its five scoring runners earning All-America honors — including All-Academic individual honorees Hannah Oneda and Frances Loeb.
The Blue Jays’ season also included team titles at the Mideast Regional and the Centennial Conference Championships.

St. Olaf earned a cumulative 3.26 grade point average on its way to the school’s first-ever NCAA team title. The Oles’ roster featured five individuals who earned All-Academic individual honors.
With 84 points, St. Olaf edged two-time defending national champion North Central (Ill.) by just two points in the closest DIII men’s championship finish since 1997. Four men earned All-America honors for the Oles, all of whom also earned All-Academic individual honors in Grant Wintheiser, Jake Brown, Brian Saksa and Jake Campbell.
The Oles’ season also featured team victories at the MIAC Championships and the Central Regional.
This is the first such award for St. Olaf since it was first awarded in 2006, and the Oles are the first MIAC program to earn it.
The Scholar Teams of the Year were among 215 women’s teams and 146 men’s teams that earned All-Academic Team honors for the 2013 season. Programs must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.10 or greater and competed in at least five different meets with at least five runners representing their school at each.
In total 220 unique programs were recognized, including 141 programs that had both their women’s and men’s teams earn the honor.
The Whitworth women reported the highest team GPA at 3.84, while the Amherst and Ithaca men were tied atop their gender at 3.66.
The MIAC led all women’s conference with 11 teams earning All-Academic honors, followed by the MAC with 10 and both the Centennial Conference and the NESCAC with nine apiece.
Men’s conferences were also headlined by the MIAC with 10 teams earning the honor, followed by the both the NCAC and the NESCAC with nine each.
