McCallum Place Joins USTFCCCA Supporters Program

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is pleased to announce that McCallum Place Eating Disorder Centers, one of the field’s leaders in athlete-centric treatment, has become the latest member of the USTFCCCA Supporter program.

“Our Victory Team at McCallum Place is excited to partner with the USTFCCCA," McCallum Place CEO Kim McCallum (MD, FAPA, CEDS) said. "We look forward to working together to raise awareness and provide education and resources for elite athletes with eating disorders.”

McCallum Place – with two locations in St. Louis, Missouri, and Austin, Texas – provides treatment and support to women and men of all ages struggling with eating disorders, with its Victory Program specifically designed to care for athletes.

Per the McCallum Place Victory Program website, "Research suggests that athletes, especially those in lean sports [such as track & field and cross country], have more eating problems than their non-athlete counterparts."

The Victory Program offers several different levels of treatment – ranging from an outpatient program to a 24–hour residential treatment program – that revolve around the core idea that treatment of eating disorders and training as a competitive athlete are not incompatible.

On top of the traditional factors for developing eating disorders, athletes face an increased risk from their sports’ physical demands and environments. These factors have adverse psychological and medical effects on the athletes’ health and athletics performance.

Clients will receive support not only from McCallum staff members with experience and expertise working with athletes, but also sport psychologist, sport dietitians and an athletic trainer.

“Given the eating disorder risks faced by our track & field and cross country student-athletes, the USTFCCCA is pleased to welcome The Victory Program at McCallum Place as the newest member of the USTFCCCA Supporters program," USTFCCCA CEO Sam Seemes said.

"I strongly encourage our member coaches to learn about the unique programs offered by McCallum Place and spend time visiting with their representatives at the upcoming USTFCCCA Convention in Phoenix.”

More information on the services provided by the Victory Program can be found here, and information on the full McCallum Place organization can be found here.
