QA₂ Max PODCAST: Big East Champ Katrina Coogan of No. 2 Georgetown
NEW ORLEANS – Katrina Coogan has excelled in her four years at Georgetown, running on a national championship team as a first-year in 2011 and torching a US #4 4:33 mile last indoor season.
But she’s also been the center of one of the biggest what-ifs on the college scene. After her freshman year, her coach Chris Miltenberg, left the Hoyas for Stanford, and all along, her father Mark Coogan was the head coach at Dartmouth. (Imagine Coogan’s talent paired with Aisling Cuffe or Abbey D’Agostino)
As she explains on this episode of QA₂ Max , she was committed to being a part of the Georgetown team and never considered leaving. While her cross country performances surprisingly stagnated in 2012 and 2013—after taking 67th at nationals in her first-ever XC season, she was just 72nd and 60th the last two years—that commitment has paid off with a huge leap this fall. Coogan took third at Pre-Nats and won the Big East individual title.
She talked to us about what it’s like to be #1 runner on the #2 team in the country, the team’s goals for nationals, and her journey to this point.
