Track & Field Academy Summer Specialist Certification Courses Coming to Houston
NEW ORLEANS – Was taking your track & field and/or cross country coaching education to the next level one of your New Year’s Resolutions last month? If yes, you might want to circle July 11-15 on your calendars.
The application process is now open for the 2015 edition of the USTFCCCA Track & Field Academy’s annual Summer Semester Specialist Certification courses at Rice University in Houston, Texas, on July 11-15.
Coaches looking to gain certification in one of our sports’ five disciplines are encouraged to apply for the opportunity to attend this once-per-year cornerstone event on the Track & Field Academy’s calendar.
Disciplines for which specialist certifications will be offered (and their scheduled instructors) include:
- Sprint, hurdle and relay events (Taught by Vince Anderson, Kebba Tolbert, Tommy Badon)
- Jumping events (Taught by Boo Schexnayder, Todd Lane)
- Throwing events (Taught by Derek Yush, Carrie Lane, Michele Curcio)
- Endurance events (Taught by Scott Christensen, Houston Franks)
- Combined events (Taught by Jim Van Hootegem, Kris Grimes)
Attendees in each event area will engage in a five-day program covering issues relating to the technical coaching of the discipline. Such topics as training theory; biomechanics; training components, design and administration; and peripheral training concerns are among those covered during the 36 hours of instruction time.
The courses are now open to individuals with two years of formal experience as a track & field/cross country coach.
Only 50 applicants to each program will be admitted, with applications being reviewed for admission in the order in which they are received. Those coaches who are accepted will be notified within two weeks and will have three additional weeks to secure their spot in the program with their $450 tuition payment.
An optional room and board package spanning from July 11 through July 16 is also available for $425.
Those who successfully complete the course will be certified by the USTFCCCA as specialists in their events. For those looking to expand their education further yet, certification through one of these courses is also one of the prerequisites for the Track & Field Academy’s new Masters Endorsement Program.
The online application can be accessed here.
