Delhi Men, Mohawk Women Favored Ahead of NJCAA DIII Championships
NEW ORLEANS – The entries are in for the NJCAA Division III Track & Field Championships, and these rankings–released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)–are based on the entries. The men’s top four, led by No. 1 SUNY Delhi, is unchanged from last week, while Mohawk Valley held on to the women’s No. 1 spot.

The Delhi men are projected as the clear favorites to win a national title after losing to Rowan-Gloucester by seven points last year. They have 1052.28 rankings points, way ahead of No. 2 Harper’s 680.50 points. No. 3 Montgomery-Rockville, No. 4 Rowan-Gloucester, No. 5 Herkimer County, No. 6 Mohawk Valley, No. 7 Suffolk County, No. 8 Howard, No. 9 Queensborough, and No. 10 Finger Lakes filled out the rest of the top ten.
Last week’s No. 8 Herkimer leapfrogged Mohawk, Suffolk, and Howard.
Mohawk Valley–the host of this weekend’s championships, which run May 7-9–is a much more tenuous favorite for the women’s title. The Hawks finished second at nationals in 2013 and third last year, and they lead defending national champs Delhi by just seven rankings points.
In the rest of the women’s rankings, Delhi overtook No. 3 Suffolk County for the No. 2 spot; that trio leads No. 4 Montgomery-Rockville, No. 5 Harper, No. 6 Rowan-Gloucester, No. 7 Kingsborough, No. 8 Fashion Institute of Technology, No. 9 Herkimer County, and No. 10 Howard, who make up the rest of the top ten.
Which individuals are going to control the storylines this weekend? Zhane Ridley of SUNY Delhi and Leah Kloss of Harper are entered in five events on the women’s side, while Brad Walls of Harper, Savonn Maye of Union County, and Christopher Simmons of Herkimer lead the men’s entries with four events each.
