Team USA Coaching Staff for 2016 Rio Olympics Features Current College Coaches

Connie Price-Smith of Southern Illinois will lead Team USA as the women’s head track & field coach at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as part of a coaching staff announced Wednesday by USA Track & Field that includes seven current collegiate coaches.

Price-Smith heads a women’s coaching staff that also includes jumps & combined events assistant coach Robyne Johnson of Boston U, sprints & hurdles assistant LaTanya Sheffield of Long Beach State, and throws assistant Bonnie Edmondson of Trinity College.

Distance assistant Rose Monday, formerly of UT-San Antonio, rounds out the women’s staff.

Three more current college coaches will be serving under the direction of men’s head coach Vin Lananna, a USTFCCCA Hall of Famer who is currently the president of TrackTown USA and an associate athletics director at Oregon.

He’ll be joined by fellow USTFCCCA Hall of Famer Curtis Frye of South Carolina, who will be the assistant coach for sprints & hurdles. A pair of Big 12 coaches are also part of the men’s staff in throws assistant Mario Sategna of Texas and jump & combined events assistant Cliff Rovelto of Kansas State.

Troy Engle, formerly of Army, rounds out the men’s staff as the distance assistant.

Managing the women’s and men’s teams, respectively, will be Marsha Horan and Tracy Sundlun.

The 2016 Olympic Games in Rio will be held August 5-21
