Collegians at the 2015 IAAF World Championships

UPDATED: Reflects the removal of athletes who were listed in the IAAF Provisional qualifying lists but not on team rosters announced by national governing bodies.

NEW ORLEANS – With the Olympics just a year away, the planet’s premier track & field athletes are set to square off at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing starting this weekend, and collegians from the 2014-15 academic year will be well-represented.

Between NCAA Divisions I and II, the NAIA and the NJCAA, a total of 58 collegiate athletes from 37 schools will represent 17 different countries in China between August 22 and August 30.

Among that group of collegians are 26 competitors who won at least one individual NCAA (DI or DII) or NJCAA national title this year, plus five more with national crowns in years past.

No collegian won more NCAA titles this year than Florida’s Marquis Dendy, whose four national titles between the long jump and triple jump are among the combined 40 national crowns claimed by the college athletes heading to Beijing.

He’s also among the five Finalists for the 2015 edition of The Bowerman Trophy – collegiate track & field’s highest individual honor – set to compete in China. He joins men’s Finalist Shawn Barber of Akron and women’s Finalists Kendra Harrison of Kentucky, Demi Payne of Stephen F. Austin and Jenna Prandini of Oregon.

Last year’s men’s Bowerman winner, Deon Lendore of Texas A&M, will also be competing.

Check back throughout the rest of the week as we detail the top collegiate storylines of the week, as well as analyze which collegians are the top medal contenders.
