CONVENTION UPDATE: Hall of Fame, The Bowerman and More Special Events
NEW ORLEANS – In addition to its myriad professional and technical development opportunities through symposiums and Divisional meetings, the USTFCCCA Convention also plays host to a pair of collegiate track & field’s premier events and other social events.
As part of the registration for the Convention – held December 15-18 in San Antonio at the JW Marriott Hill Country Resort & Spa – attendees are invited to attend the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame Dinner & Induction Ceremony, the MONDO Dinner, and the presentation of The Bowerman Trophy – collegiate track & field’s highest individual honor.
The Hall of Fame Dinner & Induction Ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 15, will honor the Class of 2015 as it is formally accepted into the ranks of all-time great coaches. Jim Bibbs, Barbara Crousen, Bob Lewis, Billy Maxwell, Don Strametz and Gary Wilson will be recognized for their exceptional careers as convention-goers enjoy a formal meal.
The MONDO Dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 16, is a chance for coaches to socialize with one another and enjoy the surroundings of the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa over a buffet-style meal. Weather pending, the event will be held outdoors.
The evening events will conclude Thursday, Dec. 17, with the awarding of the iconic Bowerman Trophy to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track & field athletes of the 2014-15 season.
Now in its seventh year, the men’s trophy will go to either Akron’s Shawn Barber, Oregon’s Edward Cheserek, or Florida’s Marquis Dendy. The women’s award is up for grabs between Kendra Harrison of Kentucky, Demi Payne of Stephen F. Austin, and Jenna Prandini of Oregon.
A dinner reception will be held following the award show.
Other events to check out throughout the week include the Female Coaches’ Roundtable on Monday afternoon and the USTFCCCA Golf Scramble Tuesday morning.
This is the latest in a weekly series that each week will highlight different aspects of the 2015 USTFCCCA Convention and feature a unique facet of the convention experience.
