Final NJCAA DI XC Rankings Released
NEW ORLEANS – According to the NJCAA Division I National Coaches’ Polls released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), Iowa Central Community College is home to both of the favorites for the national championship meet this weekend.
Throw in the fact that Iowa Central CC is also hosting this year’s meet in Fort Dodge only bolsters their chances.

On the men’s side, the vote was clearer cut. Iowa Central CC captured nine of a possible 10 first-place votes. And why wouldn’t the coaches think the Tritons had enough to win back-to-back titles at the championship meet. Last year Iowa Central CC edged Central Arizona 62-68 thanks to a 3-4 finish by its top two runners.
The other No. 1 vote went to second-ranked South Plains College, a team that finished third behind Iowa Central CC and Central Arizona last year in Lubbock, Texas.
Rounding out the top-5 on the men’s side were two programs from Arizona – Central Arizona and Paradise Valley Community College – as well as Louisburg College, based out of Louisburg, North Carolina. Paradise Valley took seventh in 2014, while Louisburg has climbed quite a bit after a 22nd-place finish one year ago.
On the women’s side, Iowa Central CC earned six first-place votes compared to second-ranked Lansing Community College’s three. There is good reason to believe the Tritons would return to glory at the national meet following a third-place finish in 2014. Iowa Central CC won back-to-back-to-back titles from 2011 to 2013 as well as two more in 2007 and 2008.
There was one more first-place vote floating around in the women’s poll and No. 3 Central Arizona plucked it out of thin air. Central Arizona was one of two teams – El Paso Community College was the other – to beat Iowa Central CC at last year’s meet.
Defending champion El Paso CC is fourth in the women’s poll and it’s followed by Mesa Community College to fill out the top-5. If Mesa CC finishes in the top-5 at this year’s meet, it would be quite the rise for a team that barely hung on in the top-20 in 2014.
The 2015 NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships get underway Saturday, Nov. 14 at 12 p.m. EDT with the men’s 8K race, followed by the women’s 5K race at 1 p.m.
