Suffolk County CC Men Take Over NJCAA DIII Rankings
NEW ORLEANS – A new men’s team has ascended to No. 1 in the fourth edition of the NJCAA Division III Track & Field National Team Rankings announced Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Suffolk County CC men joined their female Suffolk County teammates as the top-ranked team in the nation, narrowly overtaking season-long No. 1 Rowan-Gloucester CC. The Roadrunner men dropped to No. 2.
These weekly rankings will culminate in the NJCAA Division III Championships in Westfield, Massachusetts, on May 7 and 8.
Suffolk County’s men (705.27 points) made a big nearly-50-point jump from a week ago, powered by a strong weekend with nine season best performances that rank top-10 nationally. That includes the National Athlete of the Week Micah Assibey-Bonsu, who leads the nation in the triple jump.
Rowan-Gloucester CC (695.84) added nearly 15 points, but couldn’t keep pace with the Sharks.
Meanwhile in the women’s rankings, Suffolk County and Harper remained No. 1 and No. 2, but the dynamic of the race shifted significantly. The Sharks added more than 72 points to check in at 850.88 points, while Harper dropped nearly 40 for a 648.63 total.
Rounding out the top five for the men were No. 3 Harper (590.06), No. 4 Howard CC (516.69) and No. 5 Montgomery-Rockville (491.15).
Completing the top five for the women were Rowan-Gloucester (594.34), No. 4 Prince George’s CC (587.25) and No. 5 Mohawk Valley CC (414.05).
Making the biggest jump of the week for either gender were the No. 15 CC of Philadelphia women, up four spots from last time. Leading the way for the men were the No. 13 CCRI men, who climbed three positions.
The National Team Computer Rankings are complied by a mathematical formula based on national descending order lists. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Rankings points do not equate with NJCAA Championships team points.
