As Championship Season Nears, NAIA Rankings Come Into Focus
NEW ORLEANS — For the seventh consecutive week, the Indiana Tech men and women headline the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Team Computer Rankings.
|
However, the lead for the Warrior women has reached a season low.
QUICK LINKS: Men’s Rankings | Women’s Rankings
In the most recent rankings released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), Indiana Tech’s women are only up on second-ranked Concordia (Neb.) by 8.60 points. The Bulldogs have been gaining ground on the Warriors for the better part of three weeks.
Nothing, though, changed in the order of the top-5. Doane (Neb.), Siena Heights (Mich.) and Southern-New Orleans (La.) follow Indiana Tech and Concordia.
Looking at the men’s rankings, the Warriors doubled the points of its closest competitor. Indiana Tech now has 611.44 points, compared to Concordia’s 294.90.
Wiley (Texas) jumped Wayland Baptist (Texas) for fourth, while Doane’s men are still ranked third.
The biggest mover in either set of rankings was the St. Francis (Ill.) men, going from No. 24 to No. 15 in the span of a week. Southern Oregon’s men also had an impressive jump, moving from No. 23 to No. 17.
The 2016 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held May 26-28 in Gulf Shores, Alabama. We’ll find out if Indiana Tech can hold on to the top spots there.
