NAIA Rankings Evolve As Season Nears Its Conclusion
NEW ORLEANS — As of today, there are 15 days left until the 2016 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships kick off in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
|
Starting on May 26, teams will duke it out for national titles and if the National Team Computer Rankings project the team race correctly, Indiana Tech’s programs should hoist the hardware following the final day of competition on May 28. That’s because the Warriors headline the most recent rankings that were released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

As it has been most of the season, Indiana Tech’s men hold a commanding lead over the rest of the field. The Warriors tallied 620.91 points this week, more than double the total of second-ranked Concordia (Neb.).
It’s a bit tighter behind the Bulldogs as Doane (Neb.), Wayland Baptist (Texas) and Wiley (Texas) are all separated by 10 points or less. The Tigers jumped from fifth to third, while the Wildcats fell from third to fifth. The Jackrabbits remained in fourth.
Little has changed atop the women’s rankings as Indiana Tech and Concordia (Neb.) are still neck and neck. Further behind is third-ranked Doane (Neb.), followed by fourth-ranked Siena Heights (Mich.) and fifth-ranked Southern-New Orleans (La.).
The rest of the women’s top-10 moved around as Biola (Calif.) is now sixth, Wayland Baptist (Texas) fell to eighth from sixth and The Master’s (Calif.) went from 10th to ninth.
Be sure to check back next Wednesday for the next set of rankings and then on May 24 for the pre-championship edition.
