NCAA DIII XC Regional Rankings Make Their Regular Season Debut

NEW ORLEANS — The first two weeks of the NCAA Division III cross country season claimed their first No. 1 team in the Regional Rankings.

Otherwise, 15 of the 16 top-ranked squads remained in place, while there was a little movement elsewhere in the top-10 of each region.

QUICK LINKS: Regional Rankings Summary PDF | Men’s Rankings | Women’s Rankings | Rankings Central

The new No. 1 team is the Calvin women in the Great Lakes Region (Hope was the previous No. 1). The Knights were rewarded for their win at their own invitational two weeks ago. Calvin scored 32 points to Cleary’s 108 and had put five runners inside the top-10 in the process.

There were a few other big movers and shakers, especially in the men’s rankings.

Trinity (Texas) had the biggest jump of all, going from No. 10 in the South/Southeast Region to No. 3. The Tigers rolled to a victory at the Our Lady of the Lake Invitational as they had their entire scoring lineup in the top-8 and scored just 24 points. Trinity beat DII Texas A&M-Kingsville in the process.

Looking elsewhere, Wartburg went from No. 6 to No. 3 in the Central Region after a rousing victory this past weekend at the Les Duke Invitational. The Knights topped a healthy field of entered teams including Augustana (Ill.) and Central College.

When it comes to the women’s rankings in the Central Region, both Wartburg and St. Olaf jumped multiple spots from No. 5 to No. 3 for the former and No. 7 to No. 4 for the latter. The Knights won the Les Duke Invitational over Cornell College and Carleton, while the Oles used two races on their home course to their advantage.

We will see all of these teams — and more — in action on November 12 when Regional Championships are held across the nation. The NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships will be held exactly one week later in Louisville, Kentucky.

See below for more information on the rankings, including overviews of each region as well as the full top-10 lists at the bottom of the post.
