Two New No. 1 Teams in Latest NCAA DII Regional Rankings
NEW ORLEANS – A pair of new teams have moved to No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division II Regional Rankings, while many others moved into national championships qualifying position – for now.
American International’s men reclaimed their spot atop the East region and Bloomsburg’s women took over No. 1 in the Atlantic in the rankings announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

AIC took the team title at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Invitational this weekend, overtaking last week’s No. 1 Stonehill along the way. The Yellow Jackets scored 52 points for the win, followed by Connecticut College with 60 and Stonehill with 99. The Skyhawks, meanwhile, fell to No. 2 in the region.
Bloomsburg, meanwhile, also took down the former regional No. 1 in a head-to-head matchup. The Huskies scored a narrow win over Shippensburg (which fell to No. 2) at the Kutzdown DII/DIII Challenge, 69-73. All five of Bloomsburg’s scorers finished top-25.
Needless to say, more showdowns between those teams are in store for, at the very least, November 5-6 for Regional Championships weekend.
The Bloomsburg men were also winners on Tuesday, as they moved into position for the fourth and final NCAA Championships qualifying spot. Each region is allowed only a designated number of team qualifiers to the NCAA Championships on November 19 in Saint Leo, Florida.
Also moving onto the good side of the bubble among men’s teams were No. 2 Hillsdale and No. 5 Bellarmine in the Midwest; and No. 5 UC San Diego in the West.
Making that leap into temporary qualifying position for the women were No. 3 Seton Hill in the Atlantic; No. 3 Roberts Wesleyan in the East; No. 5 Malone in the Midwest; and No. 5 UC San Diego.

The United States (as well as Canada and Puerto Rico) is split into eight distinct regions for both the men and the women, combining for 16 total. Teams qualify to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships on November 19 based on their finishes at these regional championships on November 5, with each region allotted a specific number of NCAA Championship berths based on 2015 results.
These rankings aim to predict how teams will fare within those regional championship races. They are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams strength with current season results (if applicable) in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
