Minor Shake Up In Top-5 Of NCAA DII Men’s ITF Rankings

NEW ORLEANS – With just five weeks remaining until the the 2017 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, Adams State and Saint Augustine’s gained ground in the top-five of the Men’s National Division II Team Rankings that were released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.
After falling to a season-low fifth place in last week’s poll, Adams State moved up three spots to second after a slew of outstanding performances at the Grizzly Buffalo Crash, which is the program’s dual home meet against West Texas A&M.

National Division II Men’s Athlete of the Week Sydney Gidabuday posted a DII season-best altitude-converted mark of 7:58.53 in the 3,000 meters, accounting for a tremendous chunk of points for the Grizzlies. In addition to Gidabuday, Adams State saw season-best performances from Micah Ballantyne in the 60 hurdles (6.78), Ian Kerr in the 200 meters (21.24), Robert Guinn in the 800 meters (1:52.28), Jake Littlehales in the 800 meters (1:52.42), Jackson Sayler in the mile (4:01.77), Kale Adams in the mile (4:05.22), Brian Glassey in the mile (4:09.99), Jonathan Millar in the shot put (16.91 meters) and the distance medley relay quartet (9:54.00).
Saint Augustine’s jump from 17th to fifth marked the most significant move in the top-10 on the week. The Falcons returned to the top-five for the first time since the preseason poll, when the national powerhouse ranked fifth.
Ashland remained in first place for the third-consecutive week, while Grand Valley State moved up one spot to a season-best third place after solid performances from. Rounding out the top-five was Tiffin, who fell from second to fourth.

CSU-Pueblo, Minnesota State, Azusa Pacific and Sioux Falls ranked sixth through ninth on the week, with Pittsburg State returning to 10th for the first time since the preseason poll to round out the top-10.
The biggest jump on the week belonged to Academy of Art, who returned to its preseason form. The Urban Knights came into the season ranked 13th in the preseason poll before falling out of the top-25 in week two. After coming in at 44th place last week, Kevin LaSure’s squad saw blistering performances from Mobolade Ajomale. The redshirt-freshman posted the second-best 60 meter dash in DII on the season, with a time of 6.74, while also recording the fourth-fastest 200 meter dash in DII this year at 21.39. Two long jumpers in Michane Ricketts (fifth place at 24-8.5 meters) and Craig Mattox (eight place at 24-2.5 meters) jumped into the DII top-10.
