NEW ORLEANS — Where did the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field season go?
Starting this weekend, select conferences will hold their championships and then in a little more than four weeks, the best of the best will converge on Naperville, Illinois for the 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Action should continue to heat up around the nation and that’s true if you take one peek at the latest Men’s National Team Rankings that were released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The top-4 teams remained the same from Week 2 as top-ranked UW-La Crosse is trailed by 2nd-ranked MIT, 3rd-ranked UW-Whitewater and 4th-ranked Benedictine (Ill.). The Engineers gained ground on the Eagles after Dennis Maloney moved up to 4th in the USTFCCCA Individual Rankings for the 5000.
Wesley jumped into the top-5 for the first time in program history. The Wolverines took the spot formerly occupied by UW-Eau Claire, which dropped down to 7th.

Further down, Tufts climbed from No. 16 to No. 13. That’s a season-high mark for the Jumbos and another three-spot leap would put them in the top-10 for the first time since Week 5 of 2016. Tufts can thank the efforts of Tim Nichols in the 5000 for the recent move. Nichols moved up to No. 1 in the Individual Rankings with his time of 14:19.45 this past weekend, which also established a school record.
The only other team that leapt multiple spots was Rowan. The Owls went from No. 19 to No. 17 and are trending in the correct direction after setting a program record in Week 1 when they were 15th.
There will be four more rankings culminating in the Week 7 “Pre-Championship Edition” on March 6. Then five days later, the team champion will be crowned.
