The National Team Computer Rankings are compiled by a mathematical formula based on the NCAA Division II Descending Order Lists. Unlike NCAA Division I and NCAA Division III there are no NCAA Division II Preseason rankings, as only marks from the current season are used in the current Computer Rankings. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the race for a national title. Ranking points don’t equate with points that will be scored at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field
Championships.

Hanf’s Wildcats have already received two NCAA Division II Automatic Qualifying marks in the decathlon, after Jason Dunn (7219) and Phill Bailey (7195) recorded outstanding meets at the Chico State Multi-Event Classic during the 1st weekend of March. Chico State also saw a bevy of other athletes record Provisional Marks, including NCAA Division II leading times in the 3000 steeplechase by Connor Fisher (9:02.47) and the 800 meters by Derek Morton (1:49.60).

Academy of Art picked up its highest men’s outdoor ranking in program history, coming in at 2nd. Mobolade Ajomale can lay claim to most of the team’s success thus far, as he has posted the top times in NCAA Division II in the 100 meters (10.29) and the 200 meters (20.87). His 100 meter time is an NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark. Pierre Fontanarosa (1500 meters) and Craig Mattox (long jump) sit at 2nd in their respective events on the descending order lists.

UC San Diego is ranked in the top-3 in the 1st week of the season for the 4th-consecutive year. The Tritons saw Provisional Marks set by four athletes at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Invitational and All-UC Challenge meets over the course of the first two weeks of the outdoor campaign.

Angelo State (4th) and Eastern New Mexico (5th) both reached new peaks to start a season with their respective rankings. Nils Fischer (javeline) ad Mason Myrick (discus) got off to strong starts for the Rams, as each owns the 2nd-best mark in Division II on the season so far. Eastern New Mexico’s 4×100 relay team ran an NCAA Division II-leading time of 40.37 at the Willie Williams Classic, in addition to hitting three individual Provisional Marks.

A pair of Texas A&M system schools in Kingsville and Commerce round out the 100 point team scorers at 101.53 and 100.70, respectively. Texas A&M-Kingsville – who finished 2nd during the outdoor championships a season ago – sits at 6th after Vitaly Zhgun’s NCAA Division II-best javelin mark of 67.06m (220-0), set at the Cactus Cup this past weekend. Texas A&M-Commerce has a pair of top-2 so far this year, as Dedrian Windham owns the 2nd-best 400 meter time (47.28) in addition to the team’s 4×100 relay time (40.56), both set at the TCU Invitational.

Shorter (8th), Azusa Pacific (9th) and Minnesota State (10th) wrap up the top-10.

The 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, from May 25-27. Check back at www.USTFCCCA.org each week throughout the season for updated rankings.
