NEW ORLEANS – A lot changed in the Week 3 version of the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Team Computer Rankings that were released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Only six of the 50 combined teams listed in the men’s and women’s top-25s remained in place from Week 2. That number is down from the eight teams cemented from Week 1 to Week 2.
QUICK LINKS: Men’s Rankings | Women’s Rankings
Indiana Tech no longer has both of the top-ranked teams in the nation. While the Warrior men are No. 1 for the 3rd consecutive week, the Warrior women were knocked off by Wayland Baptist (Texas).
We’ll start with the Pioneers since they trekked four spots from No. 5 to take over the top spot in the women’s rankings for the 6th time in program history. Wayland Baptist (Texas) was No. 1 for 4 consecutive weeks in 2015 and won the NAIA title that same season.
The Pioneers added 229.68 points to their total thanks to the efforts of a number of athletes, namely Telecia Briscoe. The freshman starred at the NMJC Ross Black Open and is now ranked No. 1 nationally in the 100 hurdles and long jump.

Other athletes who stood out this past weekend to help Wayland Baptist (Texas)’s standing included E’Keisha Hollins (2nd nationally at 100 meters), Elizabeth Williams (3rd at 400), Tiffany Cano (6th at 400), Jackline Cherono (4th at 10000), Selene Lopez (5th at 10000) and Jackline Jemili (6th at 10000), among others.
Two other teams jumped three or more spots further into the women’s top-10: Hastings (Neb.) went from No. 9 to No. 4 and Doane (Neb.) went from No. 10 to No. 7. This is a high-water mark for the former, while the latter is getting back to where it was in the recent past.
The Move of the Week in the women’s rankings belonged to St. Ambrose (Iowa) as it gained 95.56 points and leapt from No. 50 to No. 17. The Fighting Bees swarmed in the race walk this past weekend as Katharine Newhoff, Jenny Lopez and Cassandra Delgado all posted top-6 marks in the nation (Newhoff and Lopez are top-3).
Over in the men’s rankings, not much changed at the top as Indiana Tech is followed by British Columbia and Concordia (Neb.). The Wayland Baptist (Texas) men followed the lead of the women and jumped four spots from No. 8 to No. 4 and Doane (Neb.) remained where it was last week to round out the top-5.
The newest addition to the top-10 this week was Bethel (Ind.). The Pilots jumped from No. 13 to No. 10 and did so mainly because of Phillip Fox, who posted a score of 6273 points in the decathlon this past weekend at the IWU Multi Event and is now ranked 3rd nationally.
Four teams vaulted 16 or more spots from Week 2 to Week 2: Northwestern (Iowa) went from No. 37 to No. 15, Dordt (Iowa) went from No. 32 to No. 16, Cornerstone (Mich.) went from No. 34 to No. 18 and St. Ambrose (Iowa) went from No. 43 to No. 23.
The 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held from May 25-27 in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Be sure to check back over the course of the next six weeks to find out how the NAIA National Team Computer Rankings change between now and then.
