Each team received national-leading marks from their athletes to remain on top of the leaderboards. Rowan-Gloucester (N.J.) got a strong performance out of Jake Caruso in the steeplechase, as he ran a 10:31.89 at the Delaware Open to pace NJCAA Division III. Kingsborough (N.Y.) CC saw Tatyana Mills post the nation’s top long jump mark of 5.43m (17-9¾) at the TCNJ Invitational.
While those two teams held their ground for another week, there was some minor movement below each team in the top-5.
Harper (Ill.) jumped 2 spots to 2nd on the men’s side, hurdling Kingsborough (N.Y.) CC and Howard (Md.) CC who each dropped a spot. Suffolk County (N.Y.) CC remained in 5th place for the 2nd-consecutive week.
Vicente Perez led the way for Harper (Ill.) at the Wheaton Invitational, recording the nation’s top 10,000 meter run of 35:04.86. Two other Hawks recorded top-5 times as well.
Harper (Ill.) and Suffolk County (N.Y.) CC stayed put at 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the women’s rankings, while Montgomery-Rockville and Rowan-Gloucester (N.J.) each rose a spot to take the final two slots of the top-5.
Justina Ababio posted the top discus mark in all of NJCAA Division III over the weekend for Montgomery-Rockville with her toss travelling 35.39m (116-1) at the Messiah Invitational and Multi. The Raptors saw 6 other top-10 marks set at the meet, allowing the team to climb to 4th in the rankings for the first time since the final week of the 2015 season.
While Rowan-Gloucester’s (N.J.) men’s squad had a good week, so did the women’s roster. Four top-10 marks in NJCAA Division III were set over the weekend at the Delaware Open, including the 3rd-best discus mark by Rylee Redman and the 3rd-furthest hammer throw mark by Devon Nealer.
The 2017 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held in Columbia, Maryland, on May 11-13. Check back at www.USTFCCCA.org each week throughout the season for updated rankings.
