NEW ORLEANS – For the 5th week in a row, the Indiana Tech men and the Wayland Baptist (Texas) women headline the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Team Computer Rankings.
The Warriors took over the No. 1 spot in the men’s rankings in Week 2 and held on ever since, while the Pioneers vaulted ahead of the Indiana Tech women in Week 3 and stayed there.

Indiana Tech’s men lost ground on the rest of the top-25 this week but still own a healthy lead. The Warriors totaled 468.43 points in Week 7 compared to 416.61 for No. 2 British Columbia.
Wayland Baptist (Texas)’s women haven’t been tested in the rankings yet as their lead continues to blossom. The Pioneers are up 104.42 points on the 2nd-ranked Warriors and more than 134.48 on 3rd-ranked Concordia (Neb.).

Let’s take a look at the men’s rankings, where the top-8 stayed intact. The biggest changes to the top-10 occurred right below No. 8 Siena Heights (Mich.), where Bethel (Ind.) moved up two spots to No. 9 and displaced both Southern Oregon and St. Francis (Ill.).
Bethel (Ind.) was one of five men’s teams to jump two or more spots in Week 7. Joining the Pilots in that distinction was St. Ambrose (Iowa), Aquinas (Mich.), Dordt (Iowa) and Taylor (Ind.), which vaulted six spots from No. 29 to No. 23.
Over in the women’s rankings, no team fell out of the top-10 but No. 5 Hastings (Neb.) and No. 6 Southern-New Orleans (La.) swapped spots as did No. 8 Siena Heights (Mich.) and No. 9 Wiley (Texas).
In terms of multiple-spot jumps, only two teams soared in a positive direction: Biola (Calif.) which went from No. 19 to No. 17 and Southern Oregon which went from No. 22 to No. 18.
If the 2017 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships began today, Indiana Tech and Wayland Baptist (Texas) would be the favorites, but they won’t start until May 25-27 in Gulf Shores, Alabama, so there is a ton of time for the rankings to shift between now and then.
