For the 2nd-consecutive week, there was little movement in the top-10 in the men’s and women’s rankings, meaning that teams on the outside looking in will have their work cut out for them this week.
Leading the pack on the men’s side is Rowan-Gloucester (N.J.), who has been in 1st place in the rankings all season long. Sitting over 150 points higher in the computer team rankings than 2nd-place Kingsborough (N.Y.) CC, the Roadrunners are looking for its 1st men’s national championship since the 2014 campaign. With 32 top-10 descending order list marks heading into the meet – including 4 1st place marks – they very well could run away with the title.
In 3rd in the men’s rankings is Harper (Ill.), who are almost 97 points shy of 2nd place, making Rowan-Gloucester’s (N.J.) stranglehold on the top spot all the more impressive.
On the women’s side, Harper (Ill.) leads the way, but not by the margin that Rowan-Gloucester (N.J.) owns in the men’s rankings. Instead, Harper (Ill.) sits just under 23 points ahead of Kingsborough (N.Y.) CC, making the women’s title watch a little more of a toss-up. The Hawks have been in 1st since the 3rd week of rankings, but Kingsborough (N.Y.) owned the top spot during the 1st two rankings of the season.
While the point total in the computer rankings is closer than Harper (Ill.) would like, they have a tremendous advantage in terms of top-10 NJCAA Division III performers on the year. Harper (Ill.) has 28 top-10 descending order list marks to Rowan-Gloucester’s (N.J.) 12. The women of Harper (Ill.) will be looking for its 1st outdoor title since 2011.
Onondaga (N.Y.) CC sits in 4th in the men’s rankings, and host school Howard (Md.) CC ranks 5th. Suffolk County (N.Y.) CC, the defending national champion, ranks 6th heading into the final meet of the season.
On the women’s side of the rankings, Mohawk Valley (N.Y.) CC – the 2015 champions – are little over 70 points outside of 2nd place, followed by defending national champion Suffolk County (N.Y.) CC in 4th. Herkimer County (N.Y.) rounds out the top-5.
