Collegiate Record: Britton Wilson Lowers Own 400-Meter Best Twice

Collegiate records sure don’t last long these days.

Not even Britton Wilson’s.

Don’t worry: Wilson didn’t lose her collegiate record in the 400 meters. Wilson bettered it twice at the 2023 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium. Wilson went 49.40 in the prelims on Friday and then blistered one lap in 49.13 on Saturday to lower it even further and win the conference title.

Wilson wasn’t done, though. Not long after her record-breaking 400, she returned to the track and won the 400-meter hurdles in 53.28 for the fourth-fastest performance in collegiate history.
