Wiley, Ritter Make 1500-Meter History In Nashville

Near 90 degree temperatures?

No sweat for Addy Wiley or Celine Ritter.

Wiley and Ritter scorched the oval 1500 meters at a time at the Music City Track Festival on Saturday afternoon and left their indelible mark on both collegiate and divisional history.

Taking center stage was Wiley, who competed for Huntington (Ind.) during the past year. Wiley, fresh off a freshman campaign where she captured seven NAIA national titles on the track, won the Women’s 1500m Pro race in Nashville in a blistering 4:03.22. That made Wiley the second-fastest woman in collegiate history behind 2009 The Bowerman winner Jenny Simpson’s 3:59.90 from her award-winning year.

Ritter, who just won the NCAA DII title over the same distance, finished fifth in 4:11.41 to become the second-fastest performer in NCAA DII history. The Lee (Tenn.) standout from Germany just missed the NCAA DII record of 4:11.06, set by Jessica Pixler in 2010.
