That number is close to the 123-athlete total from the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, and easily surpasses the 70 athletes who traveled to Doha back in 2019.

Let’s take a closer look at those 66 men and 46 women from 39 different countries and 56 different institutions comprised from four different divisions slated to compete from August 19-27 in the Hungarian capital.

  • Institutions with the most athletes on their 2023 rosters in Budapest, out of the 56 with at least one athlete: Arkansas (12), Texas (6), Georgia (5), Texas Tech (5), Florida (4), LSU (4), Washington (4), three tied with three (3)
  • Countries with the most collegiate representation, out of the 39 with at least one athlete: USA (22), Jamaica (13), Nigeria (11), Canada (7), Trinidad and Tobago (5), Great Britain (4), five tied with three (3)
  • Collegiate divisions with the most representation: NCAA DI (102), NJCAA (6), NCAA DII (3), NAIA (1)

We’re in store for some incredible performances in the Heart of Europe.

As you know, collegians aren’t strangers to winning medals at the World Athletics Championships.

Look no further than last year: 16 collegians combined to capture 19 medals in Eugene. That included eight gold, seven silver and four bronze. Five of those medals came from individual events: Mykolas Alekna in the discus (silver); Trey Cunningham in the 110-meter hurdles (silver); Camryn Rogers in the hammer (silver); Trevor Bassitt in the 400-meter hurdles (bronze); and Anna Hall in the heptathlon (bronze). Bassitt and Elija Godwin won multiple medals: Bassitt in the 4×400 relay; Godwin in both the 4×400 relay and mixed 4×400 relays.

Action gets underway on Saturday, August 19, at the National Athletics Center.
